"10 things you can do to relive pain"
Patients often ask me,
“Is there anything I can do to help myself, relieve pain, and promote healing?”
"Yes, there are many things you can do."
"Natural Healing"
Aches, pains, and functional disorders—whether accompanied by noticeable symptoms or not—often arise from malfunctions occurring at different levels of human physiology. These dysfunctions may occur on the cellular, membrane, organ, or systemic level. The underlying causes can be diverse: infections, injuries, excessive physical strain, emotional or mental stress, or even genetic predispositions that make certain individuals more susceptible to imbalance.
True healing begins with understanding the root cause of the problem rather than merely alleviating symptoms. Only by identifying the source can we select the most effective method to restore balance and function. Yet, in many cases, people experience chronic discomfort, fatigue, or vague pain, only to be told by modern medical testing that “everything looks normal.” Laboratory results may appear within the standard range, imaging may reveal nothing abnormal, and still the person feels unwell. This disconnect raises an important question: What is happening beneath the surface that conventional tests cannot see?
From the perspective of Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM), the answer often lies in the flow of Qi (vital energy) throughout the body. Qi is the fundamental life force that animates every cell and maintains the harmony between body, mind, and spirit. When Qi flows freely, the body functions smoothly: cells receive adequate nutrients, communicate efficiently, and perform their physiological roles in perfect coordination. This dynamic balance manifests as vitality, emotional stability, and a general sense of well-being.
However, when the flow of Qi is blocked, stagnant, excessive, or deficient, imbalance arises. Pain, fatigue, emotional distress, and functional disorders are signs of this disrupted energy flow. In TCM philosophy, pain is the body’s way of signaling imbalance of Qi flow —where there is free flow, there is no pain; where there is obstruction, pain arises.
The essential goal of natural healing, therefore, is to normalize the flow of Qi and restore physiological balance. This involves two key principles:
Nourishing the body with proper nutrition and lifestyle support so that cells have the raw materials they need for repair and regeneration.
Removing obstructions—whether they are physical (muscle tension, poor posture, scar tissue), emotional (stress, grief, suppressed anger), or energetic (meridian blockages) level.
Fortunately, many wellness self-care methods can help facilitate this restoration process. These techniques can be performed manually, or with the aid of simple or advanced therapeutic tools. Their purpose is to relieve stagnation, promote circulation, and reestablish the harmonious flow of Qi.
Self-care and natural healing modalities include:
1. Massage: It improves circulation, relaxes muscles, and promotes the release of blocked energy.
2. Massage gun: Provides deep tissue percussion therapy to efficiently release muscle tension.
3. Acupressure: Uses finger pressure on specific points along meridians to balance qi and relieve pain.
4. Gua Sha (Scraping) Massage: Gently scrapes the skin to release stagnation, improve blood flow, and stimulate the body's natural healing processes.
5. TENS Unit: Delivers mild electrical impulses to relieve pain and stimulate nerve and muscle function.
6. Electro-Acupoint Stimulator: It combines the principles of acupuncture and modern bioelectric therapy to restore energy balance.
7. Cupping Therapy: Uses suction to increase blood flow, draw out toxins, and loosen tight muscles.
8. Heat therapy: Enhances circulation and relaxes soft tissues to promote comfort and healing.
9. Moxibustion: Dried mugwort (moxa) is burned near the skin to warm meridians and disperse cold stagnation.
10. Magnet therapy: Applies magnets to acupoints or trigger point to relieve pain and restore energy balance
11. Laser Therapy (Portable Models): Uses low-level laser light to accelerate cellular repair and reduce inflammation.
12. Qi Gong Exercise: A practice that optimizes energy within the body, mind, and spirit to improve and maintain health and well-being.
13. Meditation: Train the mind to focus and achieve a state of calmness and clarity.
These therapies offer unique ways to support the body’s innate self-healing ability. They are holistic methods that work with the body’s natural intelligence, not merely symptomatic treatments. When used consistently and mindfully, they can help restore balance, vitality, and harmony, allowing Qi to flow freely and enabling your body and mind to function optimally.
"Healing Is Not a Quick Fix: A Lifelong Process of Restoration Body and Mind"
In an age of instant gratification, many people expect health and healing to come as quickly as modern technology delivers convenience. We seek immediate relief from pain, instant recovery from illness, and rapid solutions to deep-seated problems. However, true healing does not conform to this demand for speed. Healing is not a quick fix. It is a slow, continuous process of restoration, maintenance, and prevention, which requires patience, commitment, and self-discipline
This process takes time because the body must gradually rebuild its strength, re-establish balance, and reawaken its natural rhythm to heal itself. Furthermore, healing is not merely a response to disease; it is a maintenance and preventive process. Preventive care such as acupuncture and herbal remedies may not produce instant results, but over time, they enhance resilience and reduce vulnerability to illness. This steady, nurturing approach builds a foundation for lifelong health rather than offering fleeting relief.
Patience is one of the most vital ingredients in healing. The mind must shift from impatience to trust, from the idea of fixing to the practice of nurturing. Healing is a journey, not a destination. It teaches humility, gratitude, and respect for the body’s natural intelligence.
It may take weeks, months, or even years to reach a state of lasting wellness, but the journey itself is an essential part of the transformation. True healing not only restores the body but also renews the spirit, reminding us that wellness is not a single event, but a lifelong commitment to living in harmony with body, mind and spirit.
Need Help?
Some people may already be familiar with these treatment modalities. However, applying them most effectively requires knowledge of meridian theory in traditional Chinese medicine. I wrote the book "Pain Relief Meridian Therapy" to address this need. I recommend reading the book before trying any of modalities or buying any devices. Also, stress can cause aches, pains, and inflammation. In this case, you must pay attention to reducing stress. Another one of my books, titled Butterfly Dream, can help with that. You can find these books and other subjects on Amazon.
I have carefully tested and selected all of the devices listed on my website for reliability.
